Macquarie Geotechnical’s geophysics department were engaged to provide wireline logging services to assist an investigation into the proposed spillway widening at Cressbrook Dam. Whilst undertaking this suite of logging, Macquarie Geotechnical were asked if they had any suggestions as to resolving the existing filter chimneys within the structure, as the proposed methodology carried a significant amount of costs and risk. Macquarie Geotechnical undertook an Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) survey across the width of the dam, being able to highlight the location of the filters as well as additional information regarding the construction zones within the dam. This innovative use of geophysics allowed for data of significant benefit to be collected in a non-intrusive and cost-effective way.
