Central West Pumped Hydro

Macquarie Geotechnical was engaged to carry out a comprehensive drilling and investigation program to assess geotechnical risks and collect detailed data to support the development of an advanced geotechnical model. The client’s objectives included gaining insight into subsurface permeability, in situ stress conditions, rock types and defect structures to inform detailed design. MacGeo’s drilling team completed a series of inclined and vertical boreholes, incorporating packer testing, hydrofracture in situ stress testing, and both acoustic and optical downhole televiewer surveys. Monitoring wells and vibrating wire piezometers (VWPs) were also installed to support ongoing data collection. In addition, MacGeo engineers conducted test pitting in the area, using photogrammetry to capture high-resolution data on rock strength and weathering horizons.
